چکیده
The sorption of Ra on Olkiluoto biotite in the context deep geological disposal spent nuclear fuel was studied with isotherm batch experiments. Ba used as an analog for experiments and modeling studies. A wide concentration range Ra/Ba studies (2.6 × 10?9 M to 1 10?3 M) addition four different reference groundwaters salinity types ranging from fresh saline. Experimental results show that both saline groundwaters, distribution coefficients tend decrease higher concentrations Ba. With one groundwater, increased due significant coprecipitation Ra. were consistently approximately order magnitude lower than groundwater. PHREEQC multi-site complexation model coupled optimization tool Python interpret experimental results. Molecular CASTEP code implemented into Materials Studio update more realistic site density data. It observed while predicts well concentrations, auxiliary reactions disrupt high concentrations. modeled coefficient data can be safety case calculations Finland Sweden.

Surface complexation modeling of zinc sorption onto ferrihydrite.
A previous study involving lead(II) [Pb(II)] sorption onto ferrihydrite over a wide range of conditions highlighted the advantages of combining molecular- and macroscopic-scale investigations with surface complexation modeling to predict Pb(II) speciation and partitioning in aqueous systems. In this work, an extensive collection of new macroscopic and spectroscopic data was used to assess the a...
متن کاملStudy of the radium sorption/desorption on goethite
The oxi-hydroxides, present at trace level in uranium mill tailings, are responsible of about 70% of the 226 radium sorption, half being fixed on crystallized forms. This radionuclide (half time = 1622y), present at high level (50 to 100kBq.kg), can be released in groundwater, involving a possible contamination of the food chain (actual concentration limit = 0.37Bq.l). So, it is very important ...
متن کاملSurface complexation modeling of Cd(II) sorption to montmorillonite, bacteria, and their composite
Surface complexation modeling (SCM) has emerged as a powerful tool for simulating heavy metal adsorption processes on the surface of soil solid components under different geochemical conditions. The component additivity (CA) approach is one of the strategies that have been widely used in multicomponent systems. In this study, potentiometric titration, isothermal adsorption, zeta potential measu...
متن کاملAn Interactive Tool for Comparing Sorption Conceptual Models (Surface Complexation Modeling versus KD)
Within reactive geochemical transport, several conceptual models exist for simulating sorption processes in the subsurface. Historically, the KD approach has been the method of choice due to ease of implementation within a reactive transport model and straightforward comparison with experimental data. However, for modeling complex sorption phenomenon (e.g. sorption of radionuclides onto mineral...
متن کاملSurface complexation model for strontium sorption to amorphous silica and goethite
Strontium sorption to amorphous silica and goethite was measured as a function of pH and dissolved strontium and carbonate concentrations at 25 degrees C. Strontium sorption gradually increases from 0 to 100% from pH 6 to 10 for both phases and requires multiple outer-sphere surface complexes to fit the data. All data are modeled using the triple layer model and the site-occupancy standard stat...
